Classic Russian Cinema in Hyperkino (New additions)

Classic Russian cinema on DVD, presented in the innovative Hyperkino format created by Natascha Drubek and Nikolai Izvolov, produced by Ruscico and distributed in the UK by MovieMail.

After a strong response to the initial selection, this May we've added four new titles - The Childhood of Maxim Gorky, The Girl with the Hat Box, Outskirts and The Heir to Genghis Khan (aka Storm Over Asia).

This range of ten Russian films – which includes seven UK DVD premieres – are presented in 2-disc ‘hyperkino editions’:
Disc 1 contains the standard film in the best available print, with optional subtitles.
Disc 2 contains the film, plus numerous scene-specific annotations, video clips and documents (in Russian and in English). These can be viewed on screen, contextualising the film and enhancing the viewer’s understanding.

This innovative format works extremely well and is one of the most exciting developments in DVD for years. It is especially valuable for important works of world cinema whose historical contexts crave further exploration.
