Short Films on DVD
It's a sad fact that short films pretty much vanished from mainstream cinema schedules thirty-odd years ago, and even more regrettable has been their long-time absence from television.
Thankfully a number of compilation DVDs continue to come to the rescue. The wonderful Cinema 16 DVDs have allowed audiences access to the lesser-known early short works of brilliant directors, whilst specialists labels such as the BFI and Revoir have done sterling work in keeping short film products in the public eye. Some of the compilations here contain work from a variety of directors (Free Cinema, Marionettes In Space), whilst others focus on the work of one director who made some of their best work in the form (Jane Campion, Peter Greenaway, Kenneth Anger). All are well worth investigating.
