Film Description

A bold new take on Chekhov's haunting short story, Ward No. 6 updates the story's original 19th century setting to the present day, and intercuts conversations with actual Moscow mental patients with Chekhov's story to striking effect.

On the outskirts of Moscow, Dr. Ragin presides over a mental hospital where thoughtful discussion is in very short supply. His only intellectual stimulation comes from his rich philosophical debates with Gromov, a highly intelligent yet deeply disturbed patient at the asylum. In time, however, Gromov's madness begins to rub off on Dr. Ragin.
