Film Description

A raw gangster thriller set in the East End of London at the end of the 1970s and the early 80s, The Long Good Friday sees local hoods trying to muscle in on the development of the Docklands. Bob Hoskins won huge acclaim for his portrayal of the vicious gangster boss who overestimates his business capacity when he gets involved with gangs linked to the IRA.

With TV drama literacy, B-movie pace, and driven by its terrific brassy score, the furious rise and violent fall of Hoskins' Cockney mob boss was a comment on Thatcherite Britain.
