Film Description
BBC's highly-praised 1972 adaptation of the Henry James novel in which a damaged golden bowl plays a key role in exposing the artifice within a wealthy family. This six-hour adaptation features a screenplay from Jack Pulman, while Gayle Hunnicutt plays Charlotte, Barry Morse Adam Verver, Jill Townsend Maggie, Daniel Massey the Prince, and Cyril Cusack as Bob Assingham, who acts as narrator, commenting on the development of the story very much in the style of Henry James himself.
Italian prince Amerigo (Daniel Massey) is set to marry American heiress Maggie Verver (Jill Townsend), but this doesn't prevent him from prolonging his dalliance with the beautiful Charlotte (Gayle Hunnicutt). When Charlotte marries Maggie's father, Adam (Barry Morse), to whom his daughter is devoted, a house of cards is erected that could come crumbling down at any moment.
