MovieMail's Review
Based on the book by the inimitable Neil Gaiman, Stardust brings a much needed sparkle of humour to the fantasy genre. This fresh, witty fairy-tale recalls the droll humour of The Princess Bride, and will appeal to anyone weary of the likes of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia et al.
A young man, Tristan sees a falling star, and vows to retrieve it to win over the town beauty. The star, which has taken on human form (Claire Danes), has other ideas. Unfortunately for them both, Tristan is not alone - three witches want to cut out the star’s heart to restore their youth, and the sons of a dead king need her necklace to claim the throne.
With a star-studded cast, which includes Michelle Pfeiffer as a bloodthirsty witch and Robert De Niro on jaw-dropping form as a gay transvestite pirate - not to mention a host of cameos, including the great Peter O’Toole - Stardust has at its glittering heart a very British sense of the eclectic, which is preserved by imaginative special effects which happily put magic before bombast.

Film Description
British Director Matthew Vaughn directs a charming - but not too precious - adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel about a bumbling youth who must save a young girl from a trio of witches (led by a delightfully wicked Michelle Pfeiffer) who want to cut out her heart in order to gain eternal youth. The special effects never outshine the performances, and a sweet story is peppered with hints of Gaiman's dark sensibility.
