Film Description
John Ford's classic tale of a childhood spent in a turn-of-the-century Welsh mining village, How Green Was My Valley focuses on one family and their six sons, with the everyday struggles of the local community - portrayed with enormous warmth and tenderness by Ford - seen through the eyes of young Huw (Roddy McDowall).
Famously beating Citizen Kane to the Oscar in 1941 (it was nominated in the same year as 'Citizen Kane', 'The Maltese Falcon', 'The Little Foxes' and 'Suspicion' and also earned Ford the award for Best Director), this film remains an enduring classic.
