A director’s cut of Ken Loach’s drama. George (Robert Carlyle) is a bus driver in Glasgow who befriends fare dodger Carla (Oyanka Cabezas). After he finds her somewhere to live, she tells him that she is a refugee from war-torn Nicaragua. As he gradually falls in love with Carla, he arranges to travel with her to Managua in search of her lost boyfriend, Antonio - but this is 1987 and the Contra rebels are about to stage their final, lethal assault on the Sandinista Government.

A dissaffected busdriver in Glasgow allows a woman to ride free on his bus and ends up fighting for freedom in Nicaragua. Guaranteed to have you angered by CIAs involvement in Nicaragua by the end.

Robert Carlyle's pawky Glasgow bus driver (the actor is actually driving that double-decker) woos and wins Carla, a Nicaraguan refugee. When the couple move to Central America, Glaswegian wit cannot cope with what it encounters in a homeland subject to Contra attacks and the love story has to end - to be replaced by another one. The humour in the first half of Paul Laverty's script foreshadows that of My Name Is Joe.
