Film Description

Alec Guinness plays a British Naval Captain, plagued by incurable seasickness, who retires from service and buys a decrepit amusement pier in a small coastal town. After discovering the local commissioners seek to condemn and seize his pier he registers it under a foreign flag as a cruise ship at anchor.

The exterior shots were filmed on Hunstanton Pier in Norfolk which was destroyed in a gale in 1978.
