Film Description
In a labour of love for Glenn Close since she first played the role of Albert Nobbs in 1982, Glenn Close co-wrote, co-produced and stars in this bittersweet period drama based on the 1927 novella by Irish novelist George Moore. In late 19th-century Dublin, women are strongly discouraged from earning an independent living. Albert Nobbs (Close) is a woman who has been posing as a man since the age of 14, to enable her to work as a butler in Dublin's most upmarket hotel. But Albert's identity is shaken to the core when she meets charismatic painter Hubert Page (Janet McTeer) and young maid Helen (Mia Wasikowska), and formulates a plan to leave her life of servitude behind.
