Film Description

Unusually, Tales of Beatrix Potter was written straight for the big screen, but Frederick Ashton’s film interpretation of the much beloved children’s stories became so popular that he adapted it for the stage and the Royal Ballet now performs it every year as a Christmas tradition.

With music composed and scored by John Lanchbery (also of the Royal Ballet) and charming mask design by Rotislav Doboujinsku, Tales of Beatrix Potter sees Mr. Jeremy Fisher, Mrs. Tiggywinkle, Jemima Puddleduck, Squirrel Nutkin, Pigling Bland and all the beloved characters created by Beatrix Potter come to life in this colourful and imaginative musical interpretation of her tales, beautifully danced by the Royal Ballet. Five of the famed Victorian author’s most well-known stories – with guest appearances of characters from other themes – have been linked into an story that will enchant adults and children alike.

A sheer delight from start to finish. The costumes, particularly the heads, are superb and the dancing electric.
