Film Description

Classic Ealing fare, The Man in the White Suit sees Alec Guinness trying to catch the world's attention as the inventor of a self-cleaning, lifelong-lasting fabric. Thinking that his invention will be welcomed with open arms by the garment industry, he is shocked when both manufacturers and unions alike try to suppress it. Nevertheless, Sidney is determined to put his invention on the market, forcing the clothing factory bigwigs to resort to more desperate measures.

Expertly mounted by Alexander Mackendrick, and co-starring Joan Greenwood, Cecil Parker and Michael Gough, this is lively satire of British working practices with lots to enjoy.
