MovieMail's Review
The landmark charity concert that proved altruism and kindness can triumph even in the mean-spirited 1980s finally makes it to DVD nearly 20 years after its initial broadcast. The gig that made Bob Geldof an international hero acts as an excellent time capsule of some superb rock performances, with Queen, David Bowie, U2 and, or course, Band Aid all putting on a particularly fine show. Event television like this simply does not exist on this scale anymore, and the sense of exhilaration and enthusiasm is still palpable even today. Proceeds from the DVD release will go to the Band Aid Trust, which still exists to relieve poverty and hunger in Ethiopia and the surrounding area.
