Sergei Eisenstein Films
With his wild hair and his staggeringly groundbreaking films, Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein is regarded (along with the likes of Carl Theodor Dreyer and DW Griffith) as one of the founding fathers of modern cinema. The Battleship Potemkin you – surely?!? – know. His revolutionary style is perhaps best seen, though, in the likes of Strike and October – although the importance of his innovative techniques in historical masterpieces like Ivan the Terrible and Alexander Nevsky cannot be underestimated.
