Pedro Almodóvar Films
Pedro Almodóvar's style as a director has shifted markedly from his early films. The exhilaratingly flamboyant style of his early work, featuring masochistic housewives, homicidal pensioners and transvestites galore, has refined into a more mature approach in his recent melodramas Broken Embraces, Talk to Her and Volver. His focus on middle-aged female protagonists is almost unique in world cinema, allowing brilliant actresses to shine in brilliant performances.
