Canadian Film
Although in the cinematic shadow of its southern neighbour, Canadian film has nevertheless established a unique personality. The National Film Board has long sponsored experimental animators and avant-gardists like Norman McLaren and Michael Snow, as well as international co-productions by such controversial directors as Deepa Mehta. Furthermore, Quebec's thriving Francophone film industry has spawned award-winning auteurs of the calibre of Denys Arcand.
