Royal Mail post disruption - what's happening and what we are doing about it?

14th October 2009

We've been monitoring the situation carefully and putting in place measures such as a Special Delivery option to mitigate any decrease in service.

The Royal Mail postal disruption so far has resulted in some problems but 90% of our despatches are getting to you at least as fast as before. However it does seem that once something does get stuck at the back of the sorting office it can take a while before the post office find and deliver it.

Even with the vote for official strike action we expect that the problems will continue to be disruption and delay (as in 2007) rather than the complete loss of the postal service.

Do remember that if a DVD is lost in the post, we will replace it free of charge. We normally do that after 10 working days but are extending that as necessary while the disruptions are affecting service.

Royal Mail Special Deliveries are being delivered irrespective of industrial action and we've added a Special Delivery option at the checkout for UK customers who want the security of a signed-for next-day delivery. This costs 6 per item up to a maximum charge of 20.

We have put in place contingency plans in case Special Delivery stops working - if that occurs, all larger orders will be sent free of additional charge via DHL courier service.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you informed.
