Australasian Film
Australian cinema only became a world force in the 1970s, when directors like Peter Weir and Bruce Beresford launched a new wave. But it continues to produce its share of critical and commercial hits, with comedy and social drama among its great strengths, alongside the stylised entertainments of Baz Luhrman. New Zealand film has similarly emerged in recent years, thanks largely to such prestigious award winners as Jane Campion and Peter Jackson.
